Mart Murdvee dari Tallinn University of Technology menyatakan bahwa tekno-psikologi merupakan “the use of psychological methods and findings of scientific psychology to study and solve problems of human behavior and experience related to technology” pada tingkatan “organism – person – group – culture (civilisation)”, dalam mana manusia dan teknologi saling mengasah dan mempengaruhi dalam interaksi (Murdvee, 2015).
Xue et al. (2015, p. 337) mengidentifikasikan bahwa terdapat sebuah “inter-disciplinary research area that incorporates computational techniques and information sciences to study human mind” yang diterminologikan sebagai Psikoinformatika. Psikoinformatika (psycho-informatics) dapat kita pandang sebagai sebuah subset dari PT yang berfokus pada perubahan riset psikologi, yakni “shift from carefully constructed experiments on small parts of the population in a controlled environment, to massive longitudinal recorded data on tremendously large populations, full of errors and noise” (Markowetz et al., 2014, p. 411).
