Binus University and Monash University Strengthen Academic Collaboration with Research and Student Immersion
The academic partnership between Binus University, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, continues to grow, fostering collaboration in research, publication, and student immersion. This partnership has been well established over the years, contributing significantly to educational development in both countries. The latest collaboration focuses on differentiated instruction, with both institutions working together to explore innovative teaching practices.
Funded by a research grant from Binus University, the project titled “Differentiated Instruction Research in Collaboration with Monash University” brings together a team of researchers led by M. Nanang Suprayogi, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at Binus University. The research partners from Monash University, led by Dr. Pearl Subban, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, are actively involved in this collaborative effort. The Binus University team members include Dr. Yosef Dedy Pradipto, Melly Preston, and Suwarno.
One of the significant outputs of this collaboration is a research publication in Q1 Scopus indexed international journal, the Asia-Pacific Education Researcher Journal, titled “Differentiation is Sometimes a Hit and Miss: Educator Perceptions of Differentiated Instruction in the Higher Education Sector.” The paper highlights the varying perceptions of educators regarding differentiated instruction and its impact on student learning in higher education. This publication showcases the valuable insights gained from the collaboration and contributes to the academic discourse on effective teaching strategies.
In addition to research, the partnership extends to student immersion programs. From October 13-17, 2024, 15 Binus University students visited Monash University to gain international academic experience and engage with the global academic community. This immersion provided students with the opportunity to participate in workshops, discussions, and cross-cultural learning, enhancing their understanding of educational practices in different settings.
Prof. Dr. Viv Ellis, Dean of the Faculty of Education at Monash University, warmly welcomed the delegation from Binus University and expressed full support for the ongoing collaboration. He emphasized the importance of such partnerships in fostering academic growth, innovation, and a shared commitment to improving education in both Indonesia and Australia. The successful collaboration is set to continue, paving the way for future joint initiatives between the two institutions.
